the founders of Columbia Lutheran Home is our core mission of providing care for the whole
person-body, mind and spirit. Columbia Lutheran today continues this tradition of creating
a caring environment where we celebrate life with those we serve through the caring
ministry of Jesus Christ. |
| Our
History |
|
Columbia Lutheran Home has
provided quality care in a comfortable and secure setting since 1920 when its doors opened
as a retirement home for elderly Scandinavian immigrants on Phinney Ridge in Seattle,
Washington. Evolving from the Augustana Lutheran Church tradition of caregiving, residents
were drawn to the Home from as far away as Montana. The Rev. Dr. C.R. Swanson, pastor of
Seattle's Gethsemane Lutheran Church, was the first superintendent when it was called the
Columbia Conference Home for the Aged. The demand for more space
continued through the years and today Columbia Lutheran is a modern remodeled 116-bed
Medicare/Medicaid certified skilled nursing facility offering a range of services from
short-term complex care to less complex extended care. A not-for-profit home offering
progressive high quality care, Columbia is supported through the prayers, volunteers and
financial support of twenty-four sponsoring churches and supportive individuals, families
and congregations. Columbia is open to all, regardless of sex, nationality, religious
affiliation or ability to pay. |

24 Senior Living at Home |
|
In 1996, Columbia Lutheran added
the services of Club 24 Senior Living at Home to its continuum of care. Club 24
specializes in providing in-home services helping seniors remain independent in their own
homes. These services include personal care assistance, housekeeping, companionship,
errand-running, hot meal delivery to your door, yard work, light home maintenance
and more. |
